We are delighted to announce the return of our cancelled AKU Scientific Conference. The conference was planned for last year but was delayed due to the uncertainty of country-to-country restrictions as part of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting will again be held in Brussels, Belgium, at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th May.

The workshop will be an opportunity for all those involved in AKU research and care to update the wider AKU community on the advancements and future of research into AKU, whilst taking the opportunity to remind each other of previous research and the barriers and challenges still faced by AKU patients worldwide. Talks will include an update on current and previous research, co-therapies and approaches to future genetic therapies.

We invite AKU researchers, academics, and students to submit ideas for presentations and talks to be discussed during the meeting, and we welcome suggestions on those you think may be beneficial to invite to the workshop.

We plan on announcing more information, including an agenda and the potential of paid travel and accommodation, very soon. To express interest, please email ciaran@akusociety.org.

The workshop is only possible thanks to a generous grant from the European Joint Programme on Rare Diseases (EJPRD) Networking Support Scheme and the team’s assistance at VUB.
