As a patient-group charity, we are committed to ensuring the medical research we fund is always conducted to meet the needs of our community. This is achieved through our membership of the AMRC, our funding peer-review process, and our funding conflict of interest policy.
As AMRC members, the AKU Society supports the use of animals, when appropriate, in the medical research process. We do not take the decision to fund animal research lightly and are committed to undertaking high quality animal research that is well-designed, uses rigorous and expert peer review, is well-reported, and ethically justified.
We will only fund research with high standards of animal welfare (including housing conditions) and well-trained animal technologists to minimise discomfort for animals and enable researchers to get reliable results.
