The AKU Society has some great fundraising events coming up, so in today’s blog Rory talks about all the exciting things we have planned.
These events will provide invaluable funds for AKU patients and will also allow us to spread information on the disease. If you can participate in any of these or if you want to create your own event, please don’t hesitate to contact [email protected]
Following the success of last year, we will be hosting another Coffee Morning on Friday 25th November to celebrate Garrod Day. Garrod Day is a national AKU awareness day, coined by the AKU Society to celebrate Sir Archibald Garrod’s birthday, who discovered AKU, the world’s first genetic disease back in 1902. To mark the occasion, we will be hosting a Coffee Morning in our offices, with lots of cakes, hot drinks and our very own charity raffle. There will be coffee mornings all over the UK and world, in Australia, Germany and Jordan. If you would like to get involved it isn’t too late, contact Rory to get your coffee morning pack.
We have some great prizes for the raffle, including an Italian food hamper, a ‘Horrible Histories’ box set, a £25 Amazon gift voucher and even a family pass to the panto! We will be selling tickets at all of our UK coffee mornings for £1 and will reveal the lucky winners later the same day.
Once everyone has gorged themselves on cake and coffee, it’s probably a good idea to burn off those excess calories. So it’s lucky that we have 10 places for the Cambridge half marathon in March 2017. 5 places have already been claimed, with Rory our fundraising officer taking one, saying “it’s good to have an excuse to get into shape over the winter months, and the event shouldn’t be too difficult as Cambridge is so flat”. So if you would like to take on this challenge and receive a special AKU running t-shirt, follow the link to fill in the form. We’ll all be there on the day cheering you on.
We also have a place available for the London marathon in April 2017. We are very excited that someone will be running the largest marathon in the world, whilst wearing an AKU t-shirt. The London marathon is a great event to cross off your ‘bucket list’ so follow the link to fill out the form.
The AKU Society will soon be joined by a new community fundraiser and so lots more exciting events will be added to these. We are always open to new ideas and would love to hear them from you, so please do get in contact.
We are looking forward to a great end to 2016 and an even better start to 2017!
