With Christmas all but over and the New Year well underway, we take a look at all the exciting plans we have for 2017. From fire walks to Children’s Workshops. Last year was amazing for everyone here at the AKU Society, from the incredibly successful International Patient Workshop to our first ever AKU Comedy night!

There are some fantastic fundraising opportunities happening in 2017, below is a short selection of those we are especially excited about.

Next month, we are holding a very first for the AKU Society, A firewalk! Do you dare to cross the hot coals for a brilliant cause? Held on February the 18th in Cambridge Wilberforce Road Sports Ground and hosted by Findacure,  the event will not only allow you to walk over fire, but will also help raise some much-needed funds for the AKU Society, whilst meeting other fundraisers for other charities. Head over to the page or email [email protected]

We are also supporting 9 Runners in the Cambridge half marathon on March 5th. The event will see the runners racing through the (flat) streets of historic Cambridge whilst raising funds for a charity based literally around the corner. Stay tuned for more information about the brave runners. We have one place left so if this is something you’re interested in, head to the website or contact [email protected].

The AKU Society is very proud to announce that we will have a runner representing the charity at the world famous London Marathon. Asked to raise an amazing £1500 for the charity, on 23rd April look out for the lucky runner on TV sporting an AKU running t-shirt! We will also be interviewing the runner later in the year.

Along with fundraising opportunities, the AKU Society will also be hosting some brilliant events designed to inform and help AKU patients and their families.

On the 18th March patients from all over the UK will converge at Alexandria Palace for our 6th Patient Workshop. The day promises to be as informative and fun as the past 5, with some exciting guests already confirmed we are sure that all in attendance will have a brilliant and educational time. Stay tuned for more information or contact [email protected].

We are also excited to announce that we plan to hold a Patient workshop aimed at children affected by AKU. The event is to take place in spring 2017 and will hopefully take place at a zoo. Aimed at all children affected by the disease, the day will feature exciting kid-friendly activities and talks aimed at increasing the understanding of the disease for young people. We hope that along with informative talks, all children who attend the event will know that there are other young people in the same situation as them.

The events above are only a taster of what we have planned for 2017. Stay tuned for more exciting developments later in the year. If you would like more information or would like to attend or support any of our events please email [email protected].
