AKU Counselling

Living with AKU can be stressful and challenging in all sorts of ways. It can impact on how you feel about yourself, your relationships or your life generally. Although friends and family can be very supportive, it is not always easy to talk to people you are close to about difficult thoughts and feelings.

Talking to a counsellor can be a way of helping you cope with, and understand more about, any difficult thoughts or feelings that you may have. It can provide a space to talk through fears, worries or difficult experiences and find new ways of coping.

The AKU Society provides a free, confidential Telephone and Online Counselling Service for all patients and family members. Our professional counsellors are all rare disease specialists with an understanding of AKU.

Please note, unfortunately we are only able to offer counselling for AKU patients based in the UK.

Funding from the Coronavirus Community Support Fund, distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund, has helped us to provide this free counselling service to UK AKU patients . Thanks to the UK Government for making this possible.
