We are very sad to announce that Ann Kerrigan passed away last week due to complications during heart surgery. Ann has been involved with the AKU Society for as long as we can remember and was one of the first people to attend the National Alkaptonuria Centre (NAC) in 2012.
Ann was always keen to talk about her experiences of AKU, even speaking to medical students and other rare diseases advocates. She will be sorely missed.
In testament to Ann’s character, her body is being donated to the University of Liverpool so that we may yet learn more about AKU and its mechanisms.
Her family are arranging a memorial service in Bristol at 12 pm Saturday 14th September at St Bernadette’s Church, 731 Wells Road, Bristol BS14 9HU. All are welcome to attend; however, they have asked if you could please let them know so that they can make arrangements. If you would like to attend, please email [email protected]
Ann also requested that in place of sending flowers donations should be made to the AKU Society in her name.
Below is a selection of photos taken of Ann from various patient workshops and events that she was such a big part of over the years.
