The AKU Society

As you are all aware, Covid-19 has changed the way a lot of services and organisations work. To ensure the safety of all staff, their loved ones and vulnerable people in the community, the trustees have decided that the AKU Society should continue to work remotely from home.

We will not be able to answer any calls to the office number for the foreseeable future. However, if you need to contact us, please see below.

The National Alkaptonuria Centre (NAC)

Due to the new COVID-19 lockdown announced in January 2021 Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the NAC team have decided to cancel all in person NAC visits until such time as it is safe and possible to continue them in line with government advice.
We are also advising all NAC patients due to attend the centre in the next five months to not book any travel or work arrangements.

The NAC has implemented virtual or telephone consultations with the clinical lead of the NAC, Dr Milad Khedr. The NAC and AKU Society will be in contact with patients to arrange this when their annual NAC visit is due.

As you can appreciate, this situation is ever-changing. We will update all our patients as soon as we have updates and/or advice has changed. Hannah will contact all affected patients directly.
If you have any concerns in regards the NAC, please contact: Hannah Harrison, Head of Patient Support & Welfare, by emailing [email protected] or calling 07586759028 between 9am – 5pm.
