AKU Research Bursary Award

We are pleased to announce that we are launching a bursary scheme for scientific research into alkaptonuria (AKU). Designed to support early-stage researchers who are committed to advancing our understanding of AKU, successful applicants will receive funding to visit other laboratories studying AKU around the world.

Bursary recipients will be provided with the opportunity to experience first-hand the wide-range of research currently being conducted into AKU around the world. This will not only foster collaboration across laboratories and researchers around the world but also facilitate young researchers to advance and consolidate their own research.

We have already built an extensive network of international partners who will participate in this initiative, and we will look to form new partnerships moving forward to expand the reach and impact of the bursary scheme.

Up to £3,000 will be awarded to two grantees per year to fund travel, accommodation, and lab costs. To be eligible for the bursary, applicants must be no more than five years post PhD, or be in the process of completing one, with a focus on AKU or a related field. They must also have a clear research proposal for their research.
